Week of Respect · Mums Saturday · Festival in two weeks

Hi Northeast families! It's Week of Respect at Northeast, with a dress-up day every day starting Monday. On Saturday, Oct 10, pick up your mums at the Fifth Grade Car Wash, 9 AM to 12 PM. The Global Fall Festival is two weeks away, and it needs volunteers. Also inside: how to order Picture Day photos, and a new From the District section with a survey opt-out deadline this Friday.

Members only
The newsletter email goes to 2026–27 PTA members only. Found this on the site, or had it forwarded to you? Memberships reset every year, so last year's doesn't carry over. It's $20 and takes two minutes. Why this changed.

Saturday, October 17 · 1–4 PM · Two weeks away

Travel the world without leaving Grove Street.

The 6th annual Global Fall Festival celebrates harvest festivals from around the world, including Día de los Muertos, Eid, Chuseok, Diwali and the Mooncake Festival. It's our Global Magnet School at its best, and every ticket supports the Northeast PTA.

Northeast Elementary's 6th Annual Global Fall Festival: music, crafts, food, fun, cultural performances and face painting. Saturday, October 17, 2026, 1 to 4 PM on the Northeast blacktop, 603 Grove Street. In the event of rain, we'll move indoors.
Sat, Oct 17
1–4 PM on the blacktop. If it rains, the party moves inside.
Volunteers needed
Almost every volunteer spot is still open. We need people to pick up food from vendors (9 AM–12 PM), decorate (10 AM–12 PM), lend a 6-foot table, sell entry and carnival tickets, run the prize table, keep an eye on the food line, take photos (12:45–4 PM), and clean up (4–5 PM). Even one shift makes a difference. Sign up to volunteer →
What's there
A DJ spinning global beats, live cultural performances and dancing, arts and crafts, face painting, international food and sweet treats, and a carnival games zone where kids can win prizes.
Admission
$15 per person, or $45 for a family of three or more. Carnival game tickets are sold separately.
Need a hand?
Sponsored tickets are always available for families who need help with PTA event costs. Email Ms. Kupperman at dkupperman@montclair.k12.nj.us to ask confidentially.
§ This week · October 5–9

Week of Respect: a dress-up day every day.

October's theme at Northeast is respect: showing kindness and care through words and actions. During the state's Week of Respect, students come together for special activities, and every day has something to wear.

Mon, Oct 5
NJ Goes Gold & Blue. Wear gold or blue to show a commitment to preventing harassment, intimidation and bullying.
Tomorrow
Tue, Oct 6
Spread Peace, Love & Light. Tie-dye, peace signs, hearts and bright colors.
Tuesday
Wed, Oct 7
Our Differences Matter. Mismatched clothes, or clothes that represent your culture.
Wednesday
Thu, Oct 8
Be Comfortable Being You. PJs or cozy sweats.
Thursday
Fri, Oct 9
We All Belong. NE spirit gear or school colors.
Friday
Talk about it at home
The school's October Global Citizenship newsletter suggests a few questions for dinner: What does respect look like, sound like and feel like? How can you show respect to someone even when you disagree with them? What can you do if you see someone being treated disrespectfully? If your child is having a hard time with friendships or big feelings, our school counselor, Ms. Kupperman, is there to help: dkupperman@montclairps.org.
§ This Saturday · 5th grade Mum Sale

Mum pickup and the car wash are this Saturday.

Mums are ready for pickup or delivery on Saturday, October 10. Pick yours up at the Fifth Grade Car Wash, 9 AM to 12 PM, and get the car cleaned while you're there.

Already ordered? You don't need to do anything. Your order is saved. Haven't ordered yet? Orders close Friday, Oct 9, so there's still time. Every order and every wash supports the graduating 5th grade class: Moving Up, class trips and the yearbook.

§ Membership

This email goes to members only.

Since last week, the newsletter email goes only to current 2026–27 PTA members. PTA memberships reset every school year, so last year's membership doesn't carry over. Joining takes about two minutes and individual membership is $20. The newsletter is always posted free at northeastpta.org. Joining is how you keep getting it in your inbox.

First pick when registration opens
Members registered for fall ASE hours before everyone else. The same goes for the next round of sign-ups.
A vote, and a hand in what happens at Northeast
Members vote at PTA meetings, and every membership helps pay for events, teacher support and the extras our kids love.

§ Your news

Got news? Put it in the newsletter.

Class events, volunteer needs, club news, community resources: if Northeast families should know about it, we want to run it. There's one form for all of it.

1
Fill out the form. Add a headline, the date and the details. Attach photos, flyers or PDFs (up to 10 files); for a video, paste a link.
2
Send it by Friday at 5 PM for the following week's issue. If your event is coming up soon, send it a week or two early.
3
We follow up. We may edit for length and clarity, and we'll be in touch if we have questions or can't fit it in that week.

A note from your PTA Board

Thank you to every family who came to Back-to-School Night, and to our teachers for a great evening. This week, dress up for Week of Respect, swing by the car wash on Saturday, and if you can spare an hour on October 17, the Global Fall Festival team would love your help. Thanks for reading, and for being part of this community.

Warmly,
Your Northeast PTA Board
