The Northeast Family Handbook, now searchable!

The Northeast Family Handbook is now a searchable page on the PTA website -- type a word and only the answers stay on screen

The Family Handbook, now searchable.

Northeast School's Family Handbook is the document that answers almost every question that comes up in the first month — and in PDF form it is twenty pages you have to scroll through on a phone with one hand while holding a backpack.

So we put the whole thing on the website as a page you can search. Type bus, or snack, or fever, and everything that doesn't answer your question disappears. The original PDF is still there if you'd rather print it.

The questions everyone asks in September

Each one goes straight to the answer in the handbook.

Someone different is picking my child up today.
It has to be in writing, and it can't be sent after 1:15pm the same day. Changes to dismissal →
Can my child ride a friend's bus for a play date?
No — and if no note comes in, your child goes on their assigned bus by default. Bus riders →
What am I allowed to pack for snack?
There's a yes list and a no list, and nuts are never allowed in the classroom. Healthy classroom snacks →
They have a fever. When can they go back?
The nurse's guidance on fever, vomiting, rashes, antibiotics and strep, all in one place. When your child should stay home →
Can I send in cupcakes for a birthday?
No food for birthdays at all, per the board-approved food guidelines. Birthday celebrations →
They forgot their lunch. Can I drop it off?
Yes, labeled with name and room number — but the office asks you to avoid after 10am. Visitors & drop-offs →
Do they go outside when it's cold?
Yes, unless it's below 30 real-feel, precipitating, icy, or too windy. Dress them for it. Recess →
I need to pick them up early for an appointment.
Written notice in advance, and nobody is called out of class after 2:15pm. Signing out early →
— Worth knowing
You can link straight to any answer.
Every topic has its own address. Class parents and room reps — instead of retyping the snack rules into a WhatsApp thread for the fourth time, paste the link. It opens on that section already.
— Eleven sections, seventy-two topics
